The Coastal Disturbance Series New Zealand |
|
Coastal Disturbance 1 The first video of its kind in New Zealand. A 55-minute power-packed adventure into the heart of New Zealand surfing, takes us around the North Islands famous and secret breaks where a vast variety of Kiwi surfers perform state-of-the-art antics with style and finesse. Some of this footage was taken of surfers like Ross Clarke-Jones and Andrew Murphy at Gisborne and in places as diverse as Indicators and Pigeon Point. Four outstanding sessions deserve comment: ·Larry Fisher and Luke Millen take Shipwreck Bays Peaks apart at well over head. Four or five out, solid six foot walls, big moves. · Glen Campbell whacking the stuffing out of Ruapuke filth. Ruapuke, when its going off, equals anything the east coast of Oz can produce. T&C up and comer South African Seth Hulley carving massive sprays and heaving huge airs at Wainui in an epic solo session covered by not one but three top surf photographers. Punis Farm throwing top to bottom cylindrical punishment on some of the best Mount surfers. Some of the best surfing is at Matakana, where we see the Andy Jordan, Greg Scott, Owen Barnes, Wayne Lowen, Matt Bennett, Mike Kiwi, Mark Dovey, Chris Neno, Tony Williams in action, with highly decorative cutaways of Main Beach sun-lovers. The balance of the video consists of heavy Stent Road at six to eight foot with Jason Lellman, Pipi Ngaia and Motu Mataa blasting. The next section shows Gisborne, including James Fowell, Maz Quinn, Damon Gunness and Blair Stewart at the Island and at small, clean Wainui. Theres also some good footage of Hawaiians Johnny Boy Gomes and Sunny Garcia. As surf photographers know,. You have to have good lighting and the right vantage point and most off all you need high perform ance surfers. Coastal Disturbance combines all these elements, mixes in excellent Kiwi music to produce a fast moving surf video thats sure to become the standard by which other New Zealand films will be judged.

Coastal Disturbance 2 Coastal Disturbance 2 is the next instalment of the only full-length feature New Zealand surfing video . And the
first half is brilliant. Weve seen quite a few overseas stars grace our shores, and
theyre all captured here, giving our waves a severe flogging. The footage of
American Matt Archbold is captivating as he rips the bag with his full arsenal of tricks.
We even spent time with him in the tattoo studio where Matt added to his collection while
in NZ. Likewise the footage of Martin Potter and crew is awesome, with the lads carving
some filthy waves in Piha and Gisborne.

Coastal Disturbance 3 SOME of 1995's hottest surfing action is captured in Coastal Disturbance 3. The third in the Coastal Disturbance series,lt follows the same surf magazine style format of the previous version and draws mostly from New Zealands ma-jor locations, especially Raglan and Taranaki. The Taranaki segments come from the Maori Nationals and feature many of that regions top names like Jason Lellman, Motu Mataa, Pipi Ngaia, Mike Pupuke and Seth Matthews. Viewers are treated to the fierce, attackinng style of Jason Matthews, to the sound of the theme from Once Were Warriors. Heading south we see the astonishingly agile Nuku Nash performing last minute lightning moves at what looks like Gore Bay. CD3 also reveals wild antics in cyclone surf last February at an East Coast location that lm forbidden to disclose: the piles of driftwood on the beach and rare shot of Edgecumbes Tony Ogilvy and son Lucas will give you a hint. ln this segment Matthew Bennett Greg Scott and Toby Waterhouse also go seriously off As with most surf media operators, May was a frantic month with whizzing back and forth like a billiard ball tracking the five or six contests. The Raglan event followed by two in Gisborne, then over to New Plymouth, then Piha where nothing was filmmed due to the hopeless conditions. Comprising totally fresh footage, this video contains quite a lot of water shots which provided one or two close shaves. While filming at Wainui Matt Archbold skate`s over the top of the photographer. At the WQS Raglan contest, the biggest surf contest ever held in this country, the sequences are probably the best ever taken by a Kiwi photographer and illustrate the talent of surfers like Will Lewis, Tim Curran, Chris Ward, Cory Lopez, Dog Marsh, Maz Quinn and eventual winner Daniel Wills. Check out Occy, Michael Lowe and a host of top internationals free surfing at Indicators in clean overhead conditions after the comp!! The soundtrack is all New Zealand and features top local band`s Unleaded, Shihad, Head Like a Hole, Future Stupid and more!

Coastal Disturbance 4 I`ve just been to Andrew Forrester`s pad and quite simply, there was some of the best footage of New Zealand surfing I`ve seen to date. It seems the standard of surfing has risen heaps which is good to see, also the picture quality is way better than before . All thanks to a new edit suite at the Surfvision studio. Anyway I was introduced to some sick surfing from Chrissy Malone going berk in his home town and further down the coast, watch out for the guy surfing as smooth and powerful as a babies bum. Also him and his mates Razzy, Joe Palmer, and Scotty Willson surfing big waves that almost look like Hawaii?... exceptions being their wetsuits and no girls with G-strings on the beach. Look out for James Fowell carving it up around Gizzy and one wave at J-Bay sort of. There`s a profile on Blair Stewart who also features on the cover. D.K.,Emmit and Marc Moore get fitted and ollie 360 their way to victory at Ruapukes Cove. A few Mount boyz, and Tully actually get some waves to surf near their home town. Izzy ,and look-a-like twins Mark dovey and Matt Bennett(Spot the difference?) go up and down, rounr and round. They also get a couple at Matakana and are joined by the likes of mike Smith and Murray Valentine. Shot from the water which allows the veiwer to peer down the throats of some little Island suck-outs. Maz as usual goes nuts, making average waves look sick. The stand out footage was that of Daniel Kiwihuatahi Kereopa, Emmit and Nukuuroa Nash pulling into big gnarly barrells at the ledge. All while being shot from a boat sittting right on the shoulder for the entire ride. Boyz got towed and dropped out the back after each wave. What a life aye boyz!! Apart from Ragz and some Taranaki footage it looks more like an eastcoast type video...yeeah! But with the quality of waves and surfing, and the new edit suite this video should be different and better than the rest.
